Many Brits will be well acquainted with Heinz’s canned baked beans with mini-sausages, but, according to Plant Based News, the Co-op is launching a vegan-friendly version of this nostalgic product made with vegan Lincolnshire sausages.

The beans and sausages have been made in collaboration with wholefoods co-operative Suma Wholefoods, whose products are mainly sold in health food shops across the country, and vegan food producer VBites, who are owned by Heather Mills.

The can is filled with six delicious meat-free Lincolnshire style sausages with baked beans in a rich tomato sauce with herbs and spices and is great on toast or with a baked potato.

In a statement sent to Plant Based News, VBites owner and entrepreneur Heather Mills told the media outlet she was excited to launch the product saying: “As a kid from a working-class family we loved sausage and beans but only had enough money to buy in a tin. One of my fantasies was to have vegan sausages and beans, and we at VBites and Suma are doing that now with our canned product. In addition, we have also created meatballs with bolognese sauce in a tin.

“Both products are great when I’m on the road – as I can even eat them cold out the can. They are both available in natural health food stores and Co-op is launching the sausage and beans as well.”

Suma recently teamed up with VBites to create a variation on this classic kitchen cupboard favourite, canned beans and mini VBites burgers.
